I bought that off of egay. It is just a stripped down shell with the filler and tank mounts cut out. I am going to cut it in half...........widen it and stretch it three or four inches. Should make about 5.5 to 6 gallons when done.

I had to bring this back up to the top so that I can find it tonight and post some update pics. The gas tank is all made (what a bitch) and the top shell is ready to weld to the bottom after I wipe it down good inside one more time to get any oils out of it.

Worked on my oil tank all weekend. All I have to do is figure out how I am going to hold the battery down so that it does not bounce or move. This thing turned out sweet if I must say so myself. These things are a lot of work. If I can figure out the battery hold down tonight..............it will be powdered and finished by the end of the night. I won't post the pics until it's in powder. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag until you can see it from start to finish. It just wouldn't have the same effect.

I'm stoked! Just pulled the oil tank out of the oven and she looks great. 8) So here are some start to finish pics.

Started out with a piece of 16g that I picked up at the local metal supplier in the shorts bucket. Then I took it over and had it cut to size and ran through the slip roll.

Machined up some bungs on the lathe and stamped them with a "V". "F", and "R".

After I made a couple of top mounting bungs on the lathe and welded them in, I bent up some tubing for the vent and return lines and welded them in and tacked them to the tank.

When Ken, Mark and Gary came down at the end of December for the trip to Cinci/Kentucky to meet up with Dan and his family for lunch.........Ken gave me a great idea for my oil tank. This is what I have been keeping under my hat until now. I think that it was a cool idea. Thanks Ken! 8)

This is a 1.5 liter bottle of Grolsch beer from Holland. I picked it up at the local wine/beer importer for @ $11. What I was really after was the top. Sweet!!!

After a couple of hours on the lathe (and polishing off the bottle of beer), This is what I ended up with.

The last picture was after I did the test fit of the lid. I put it back in the lathe and tapered the base to match the rest of the neck.

picked up a magnetic 1/2"-20 drain plug at the local automotive supplier. I will be picking up a better gasket for it before she gets filled with oil. I don't like the cheap plastic gasket that came with it.

If you notice the two threaded bungs in this shot............you will understand here in a little bit what purpose those will serve.
